Firelight Praise

It’s Teresa of Avila’s feast day again. Oct. 15th, every year. We’re eight months into a pandemic, and the COVID-19 infection rate is climbing again at an alarming rate. This is when I get as snarky as Teresa, who once said to the Divine Master:

“…when wilt Thou cease from scattering obstacles in our path?” “Do not complain, daughter,” the Divine Master answered, “for it is ever thus that I treat My friends.” “Ah, Lord, it is also on that account that Thou hast so few!” was her reply.*

Sometimes the world seems so much more fucked up than I could’ve imagined just a week ago! Yet some things remain stubbornly the same, like Teresa, yet there are many nights I find myself still grateful and even hopeful beyond measure.

I continue to give thanks for all the kindness shown by all you maskers out there, whose eyes shine on me daily; for all who provide food, sanitation, healing, prayers, and laughter.

Stay safe, keep up the good work, and sing.

Light of the world, of endless blessing,
Sun of our night lamp of our day.
Light of the world, of endless blessing,
We raise our hearts in thanks and praise.

Evening lamps are lit; firelight all around.
Evening lamps are lit; praise the only sound.
