Starting today, the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival, is on the move. Nationwide civil disobedience is happening in more than 30 state capitals each Monday* through mid-June. The campaign will culminate on June 23rd in Washington, DC. Here’s a link to find all you need to know: the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival.
The poor People’s Campaign is the reboot/successor to a movement begun by Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King 50 years ago. His final Sunday sermon was given at Washington National Cathedral on March 31st, 1968. It was called Remaining Awake Through a Great Revolution. In this sermon you can read his analysis of systemic racism, militarism, poverty, and ecological devastation. If you’ve never read this sermon, it’s every bit as relevant today as it was in 1968. If you’ve read it before, it’s still an incredible read.
Back to the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival – There will be singing! Here are links to the songs being taught across the country at each action. Learn them now, teach them, share with your friends, communities, take to the streets and remember that we are the change.
Somebody’s Hurting My Brother by Yara Allen
Somebody’s hurting my brother
and it’s gone on far too long
Yes, it’s gone on far too long
It’s gone on far too long
I said, somebody’s hurting my brother
and it’s gone on far too long
And we won’t be silent anymore
Somebody’s hurting my sister…
Somebody wants to build that wall…
Somebody’s hurting poor people…
Somebody’s hurting our children…
Somebody’s poisoning the water
Somebody’s ignoring the homeless…
Somebody’s closing our borders…
Somebody’s hurting our families…
Everybody’s Got a Right to Live

Everybody’s got a right to dream (to dream)
Everybody’s got a right to love (to love)
Everybody’s got a right to…
I am not afraid
I am not afraid
I will die for liberation
Cause I know why I was made
(Add Alternative languages)
I will live for liberation
I will march…
I will sing…
I will stand…
We’re a new unsettling force
And we are powerful a new unsettling force
And we’re here, we’re a new unsettling force
For liberation and we’ve got nothing to lose but our chains
And we’ve got nothing to lose but our chains
And we’ve got nothing to lose but our chains
